Winter Snow

In the spirit of Christmas, the song for the week is Winter Snow by Audrey Assad.  Besides this song she also has an album out called The House You're Building.  She has such a unique voice that is gentle yet rich in sound.  I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas, and hopefully we do get some winter snow!

I love this song because normally people don't take time to actually think about Jesus's birth.  With all the power God holds, Jesus could have come in many different forms.  But he chose to come quiet, soft, and slow just like a winter snow. I love the image that is created from all the lyrics but especially the one that says "falling from the sky in the night, to the earth below." We have a powerful God, but he is also gentle.  Enjoy this Christmas, and remember the gentleness and peace that Jesus brings in his birth!

Safe

This week I chose the song Safe by Phil Wickham.  The lyrics in his music are just so detailed, encouraging, and thoughtful.  He does a lot of acoustic stuff, contemporary worship songs, and just the type of music you want to listen to when you need encouragement or hope.  For college students finals are comin up, and for those of you still in high school or middle school there's a lot of work to get done before Christmas break.  Take some time to just reflect on the beauty of this  artist's songs.

You will be safe in His arms. The hands that hold the world are holding your heart. This is the promise He made. He will be with You always. When everything is falling apart. You will be safe in His arms.  With all the stress that comes in life we need to remember that His hands are holding our heart.  It might seem like things are not going to come together, but He built the mountains and calmed the sea.  These are the arms His hands hold the heavens, and they are holding you and me. He is powerful and loving and he desires to hold us small beings in his hands! God is good :)

Everyone To Know

This weeks song is Everyone To Know by Bethany Dillon.  She came out with her first album at the age of 14, and continues to inspire listeners through her contempory-pop christian music at the age of 21.  Her songs share her love, joy, and peace found in the Lord. Enjoy!

"Here we go. Let in the light from my window. Say goodbye to my sorrow, and hello, new day. My soul needed a rescue. A Hero, it had to be You. I know you've changed everything"

Everyday holds the possibily of a change.  There is constantly things trying to distract us, and pull us away from the Lord.  Our souls need a Hero, and that Hero has to be God. Once you find that He is your one and only Hero, it is your job to tell everyone about His love! Face it, if you can truly grasp how infinite his love is for you, you will want everyone to know :)

Forever

To fit the theme of Thanksgiving week, the song is Forever, by Chris Tomlin.  He is a Contemporary Christian music artist, worship leader, and songwriter.  He a plethora of worship songs like Forever that a lot of churches sing.  I have been to countless concerts, and every time I feel as though it is less of a concert and more of worship service.  He has also writen many books, the one I would recommend is The Way I Was Made.

"Give thanks to the Lord, our God and King. His love endures forever!"  I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, and remembered to give thanks to our God and King.  I love this song because it is a great reminder of all the simple things God is for us.  From the rising to the setting sun, his love endures forever.  He is faithful, strong, and always with us.  Those simple words should cause us to sing praise to Him forever!

Come Together

This song is called Come Together by Third Day.  This group fits into the category of rock with a little bit of country.  Their name comes from Jesus rising from the grave on the third day.  In one of their somgs they actually have lyrics that say " On the third day he rose again." The band came together in 1992, so they have been around my whole life, and I've been hearing them my whole life because they are my mom's favorite band :)

From the title you can probably tell that the theme of this song is coming together.  This song says that all of us need to learn how to love.  If we can do that and realize we are brothers and sister, and we are one, then the world will be a much better place.  I just love this song because most people look at the world and say "There's no hope".  We do have to face our trials but in the end we have so much to look forward to!

Diverse City

Diverse City by TobyMac was the song for last week.  TobyMac is mainly a hip-hop/pop group, but they incorporate many different styles into their music.  Rap, regae, gospel, and pretty much anything with a funky groove.

This song is fun and upbeat, and it talks about diversity.  It just says that no matter who you are, where you come from , or what you do, you are welcome to come and praise the King.  I love the line that says " So put your hand in the hand of mine and we'll spread this love like dandelions."  God created each of us in a unique way. So we are all diverse, but if we can walk hand in hand with eachother, there's no stopping the love of Jesus Christ!

Rebirthing

The band I chose for this week has a different feel to it than the past posts.  Skillet is a Christian heavy metal rock band, and the song for the week is Rebirthing.  Skillet is a unique band because they have a female drummer and guitar player.  This group of 4 appeals to many teenagers because they don't fit the stereotypical Christian music group.  However, they offer messages of hope in their music. So you can receive Jesus in the moshpit! What could be better? :)

I personally am not a huge fan of Skillet, but depending on my mood I like it because it is still spreading the word of God.  I was thinking of this song this week because there is a lot of stuff that I need to remember to die to daily.  Sometimes we get suffocated by our sinful nature that we need that rebirthing within us.  I want to live for love, and the only way to fully act that out is through Jesus Christ.

Like A Lion

This week I chose the David Crowder song Like A Lion.  The music of this group combines bluegrass, folk, alternative, and a touch of electronic groove to it. Unfortunatlely they are not going to be together much longer, but their songs still fit into my top favorite. There's a blog about the Farewell to the David Crowder Band.  I hope you enjoy them!

I love how upbeat this song is, because it portrays how we are supposed to live for God.  If we ask God to enter into all of our being His love will explode in this world and in our lives.  This song speaks of the aliveness of God inside of us. We are to be bold in spirit and bring the roar of heaven here on Earth! So don't be ashamed because "My God's not dead. He's surely alive. He's livin on the inside roaring like a lion!"

The Well

This week I chose the song, The Well, by Casting Crowns.  They are classified as a soft rock Christian music group, and their band actually started out as a youth group praise team.  They just came out with their newest CD, Come to the Well, on October 18, 2011.

The song starts off with the lyrics “Leave it all behind”, and it talks about how we are constantly searching for more when all we really need to do is come to our Father to satisfy us.  I find myself getting so caught up and busy as the year goes on that I forget what I really need to be focusing my attention on.  The world will try to consume us, but it will never fill us the way the love of Christ can.

Stronger

The song for this week is Stronger, by Mandisa.  She was actually the ninth place finalist in season five of American Idol, and now she is a gospel singer.  In her songs you will be able to relate to her stories of struggle, redemption, and God's everlasting presence in our lives.

In the beginning stages of a struggle we tend to question how are we going to get through this? The song Stronger tells us to hold on just a little bit longer, because this is only going to make you stronger.  It is important to remember no matter what God may place in front of us he is only doing it to make us stronger, and even though we may be hurting He is powerful enough to take care of our lives.

Hold Me Together

I have my own particular sorrows, loves, delights; and you have yours.  But sorrow, gladness, yearning, hope, love, belong to all of us, in all times and in all places.  Music is the only means whereby we feel these emotions in their universality.  ~H.A. Overstreet

Music has the ability to speak to everyone.  Sometimes it is was holds us together when we feel like we are falling apart.  The song of the week is Hold Me Together by Royal Tailor.  Royal Tailor would fall under the category of Christian Pop.   They have a unique way of blending pop, rock, R&B, hip hop and worship together.  The band's four men, Tauren, Blake, Jarrod and D.J. deliver the Gospel in a high-energy style that makes the listener want to dance, pray, shout and sing along.

This song provides a prayer that all of us have wrestled with at one point.  Is God big enough to hold us together?  It speaks truth in that we can find strength with God by our side, and without Him we are falling apart. Whenever I'm having a bad day this song always reminds me of the joy we can find in Jesus!
